The International Institute of Nursing and Research (IINR) proudly organized a School Health Program at Bidya Sagar Shishu Siksha Kendra, Kalyani, as part of its ongoing commitment to community health promotion and child welfare. Conducted by the GNM Final Year students, the program aimed to educate schoolchildren on important health, hygiene, safety, and lifestyle practices through interactive demonstrations and engaging activities.
The students used colorful educational charts, role-play sessions, and practical demonstrations to make learning enjoyable and easy to understand. Various health-related topics were discussed, including personal hygiene, prevention of worm infestations, healthy habits, physical exercise, child safety, and the importance of reducing excessive mobile phone usage.

One of the key attractions of the program was the demonstration of simple physical exercises and yoga activities that encourage children to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students also highlighted the benefits of outdoor games and physical activities over prolonged screen time, promoting overall physical and mental well-being.

Special awareness sessions were conducted on good touch and bad touch, helping children understand personal safety and encouraging them to speak openly about uncomfortable situations. The nursing students used visual aids and age-appropriate explanations to ensure the message was communicated effectively and sensitively.

The program further focused on educating children about the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of worm infestations, a common health concern among young children. Through informative posters and discussions, participants learned about handwashing, safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and healthy eating habits.
Children enthusiastically participated in the sessions, asking questions and engaging with the demonstrations. Teachers and guardians appreciated the efforts of the nursing students in creating a friendly and educational environment that encouraged active learning.

The School Health Program provided an excellent opportunity for the GNM students to apply their nursing knowledge in a real community setting while developing their communication and health education skills. The event successfully strengthened awareness among children and reinforced the importance of preventive healthcare from an early age.
The program concluded with a group interaction session and words of appreciation from the school authorities. Through initiatives like these, IINR continues to foster community engagement and contribute to building a healthier, safer, and more informed future generation.

“Educating children today creates a healthier society tomorrow.” The School Health Program stands as a meaningful step toward promoting health awareness, safety, and positive lifestyle choices among young learners.
